Carthusia perfumes, previously available exclusively on Capri, ventured beyond the island's borders for the first time in September 2002. These fragrances embarked on a journey to be presented to the world, like a gentleman - sober and discreet.
In 1380, the prior of the Certosa di San Giacomo collected the most beautiful flowers on the island for the visit of Queen Joanna I of Naples. In doing so, he unknowingly created the first Capri perfume, "Garofilium Silvestre Caprese". Only three days later did it become apparent that the water had taken on an extraordinary scent. Inspired by this discovery, the monastery alchemist formulated the fragrance.
In 1948, the prior of the Carthusian monastery rediscovered the ancient perfume formulas. With the Pope's permission, he shared them with a chemist from Piedmont. The chemist began his work in a small laboratory called "Carthusia". Even today, the fragrances of Carthusia, the fragrances of Capri, are created in this magical place, rich in aromas and emotions.
These fragrances are made using ancient methods and high-quality ingredients such as rosemary from Monte Solaro and wild cloves from Capri, which give the fragrances an unparalleled originality. Each bottle is meticulously filled and packaged by hand, with dedication and expertise.
