The original, bold idea for marble glasses came about in August 2011 while working on the Natfuse project. A piece of marble accidentally fell and the shape of the resulting fragment resembled the front of a frame. This heralded the beginning of an increasingly ambitious and sensational challenge: forging marble into a wearable accessory.

Products in the marble industry generally weigh several tons, so the goal of creating an accessory weighing between 39 and 42 grams and tenths of a millimeter thick was truly groundbreaking.

Other materials used for eyewear are stretchable and malleable, while the use of inflexible, brittle, heavy Marble brought with it a whole complex of problems that had to be overcome.

The project required large investments in the most modern software and technology, as well as the creation of a team of craftsmen and specialists who worked exclusively on the constant development of the product, from technical design to creative design and styling.

Due to the complexity of the material itself, the production of glasses from marble requires constant research and experimentation, which is not necessary with other materials. The types of marble selected by Budri are obtained from quarries in different parts of the world. Therefore, processing a new material means having to deal with its specific, unknown and unpredictable properties. To overcome these challenges, the Budri eyewear laboratory employs experienced craftsmen, chemists and geologists who study the porosity, strength, absorbency and reaction of the stone.
